Road Safety Physics
Set the vehicle speed, design a single test lane, and compare measurements.
Forces on the car
LIVE · 0.00 sGround reference frame. These are forces on the car. The car is represented by a point; this diagram explains translation, not the torque that turns the body.
Horizontal forces · top view
Vertical forces · elevation
Resultant · calculated separately
Horizontal arrows share one scale in both top views; the scale adjusts with force size. Vertical arrows have their own scale. Tiny forces may be hard to see; their values are listed. The faint car outline shows heading, not velocity.
“Centripetal” describes the inward component of the net force during curved motion. It is not another interaction to add. Air drag is omitted; tire grip and rolling resistance are modeled separately.
Speed over time
Current BaselineSensor gates
m/sA gate records the vehicle center crossing its beam. Vehicles outside the road width can miss a gate.
Barrier force over time
MODEL OUTPUTContact force is calculated at each physics step. Peak values depend on the assumed barrier stiffness and damping; they are not injury predictions.

*Peak modeled normal force. Average force and normal impulse appear in the impact panel and CSV. Barrier parameters are illustrative, not certified ratings.
